As a lifelong qualified and certified Trainer for educators with a Master’s degree in education, my forte is creating and building online courses backed by top-notch qualifications by profession.
Still, I was tired of being told that what I did wasn’t ‘that’ important and ‘that’ I should be grateful for this profession ‘that’ was given to me!
So for years, I kept silent until I realized it was time to make a change …

It’s no secret that falling into the nine-to-five rat race can be all too easy. Since we were young, the adult figures in our lives told us we needed a steady job with regular, fixed hours.
As they gave their unsolicited input, you could read between the lines: put your passions aside and get a real job.
Unfortunately, this advice had the reverse effect on me, and instead, I found myself resenting the “normal” work-life I was meant to strive towards.
I had an impressive resume, colleagues who respected me, and certifications to vouch for my credibility.
Yet I was unfulfilled… “I Missed Spending Time With My Children, Who Appeared To Be Growing In The Blink Of An Eye.”

Tired of feeling powerless, I launched my first side hustle, a bakery business, in 2016. I was a passionate self-learned cake designer, and doing what I loved made me feel 10x more fulfilled. The dream I had as a child of baking cakes all day was finally coming to fruition! I completed cake orders from home, and my children were eager to participate, sticking their tiny fingers in icing so I’d have to restart. I was elated to be setting a good example for my children – One that inspired them to follow their passions!
That, alone, made the move worthwhile!
Soon, demand began picking up, and I was busier than ever. At my nine-to-five job, the idea of a packed schedule was not only frequent, but it brought me immense dread. But my side hustle was different because I gained more satisfaction designing one cake than I did in six months at my day job.
Four years later, my cake business broke five figures as a side hustle – proving that the magic of a positive mindset is unstoppable. YAY!

I’d made plans to resign from my nine-to-five and shift my side hustle to my primary source of income, but unfortunately, the 2020 pandemic had other plans. My cake business came to a crashing halt! Everyone grew wary, and as a result, people stopped buying homemade cakes.
Knowing that this setback wouldn’t last forever, I persevered and resolved to stay at my day job until the dust settled.

At this time, my nine-to-five job as a university coach, lecturer, counselor and speaker had become increasingly demanding.
I found myself constantly strapped for time, as my days were packed with back-to-back meetings, non-stop synchronous virtual classes with students, administration tasks, committee tasks, marketing support tasks, special project tasks, counselor tasks and…
I lost count of what I’ve been tasked with. Heck! All tasked!”
So it was a simple solution. “It is something I am good at doing... UNTIL IT WASN’T... !”
To improve efficiency, I opted for online group coaching through digital courses I’ve created. I had gained years of experience creating digital courses for Universities, so it was a simple solution.
I’ve even created digital courses that sell to organizations that had millions of revenues in profit. So it is something that I am good at doing.
During my tenure at University, I won a few awards as the School Assessment Champion In Digital Courses and Staff Emeritus Award in Digital Courses Creation and Innovation for Teaching and Learning.
In addition, I’ve been nominated as a speaker for best practices in digital course creation in the teaching and learning industry within the corporation.
In my teaching field, the result was better than I imagined, as it granted me and my students more free time; they could access the course at their convenience, and my days were more effective in handling multiple days-in and out tasks.
It was truly a win-win situation! ... Until it wasn’t!
They responded by saying … “Everyone here has families, yet none of them applied for leave during this period, and if I granted this for you, the rest would follow!”
From a nine-to-five hourly job in the office environment turned 24 hours working from home. Demand after demand, task after task, and I am finally drowned with unappreciative workloads.
One day, the policy maker requested a meeting with me after I raised concerns regarding my mounting workload and a desire to spend more time with my family. They responded by saying … “Everyone here has families, yet none of them applied for leave during this period, and if I granted this for you, the rest would follow!”
Stunned and hurt, I thought, “I bet they wish they could….”

Unfortunately, I didn’t have a sizable trust fund to fall back on or wealthy connections to borrow from to get my side hustle rolling. However, I refused to let that stop me.
